We have a NEC SV8500
Is there any way to automatically turn DND on at 5 pm when the office is empty and then back off at 9 the next morning?

What are you trying to acomplish? There are day/night mode settings for several of the commands such as ARSC, ASFC, ACDD etc. We might be able to find a simple soultion to help you if we knew what you were trying to do.

Please don't take this as me being a smart a$$.

Right, what Buck said. For example, are you trying to get voicemail to automatically answer at a certain time of day, or were you talking about specific phones, is it that you just don't want to hear the ringing, etc.,
