I just start fooling around with my first SV8100 also. Coming from Avaya Definty/Nortel BCM and Cisco CM world, NEC is quite a different mentality for me as I am still grinding thru the SV8100 basic foundation course.
I have a question for experts here: What is the maximum distance that I can put between the main SV8100 chassis ( with the PZ BS10 ) and the expansion chasis (PZ BS111) ? Is it limit by 100 meter - Ethernet CAT5 standard or NEC is using some kinky proprietary with its own distance limitation ? Has any one feed them thru fiber / media converter to bring them chassis accross buildings to take care of door opener thingy with ACI port ? I have one customer with one WIN phone system on each buiding so they can control the door/outside call box plus another NEC IPK for another maintenance shop ! We are looking at setting them up under one SV8100 system with ISDN PRI and using digital sets to cut some cost instead of IP sets.
Thanks,

I was told in class it was NOT Ethernet and the maximum distance was basically the cabinets stacked on top of each other.

The cable supplied is about 1 meter in length though it is a standard CAT5 cable. As the circuit between chassis is a data circuit not LAN anything longer could end up with signal degradation though in the lab I have tested this up to 15 meters but would not like to try it on a real site..

I'm not sure if the 8100 supports Remote PIM, but on 2000IPS, a remote PIM could be used over IP, T-1, or DSL. Later, they had a feature called DMR.
We routinely had remote PIMs on the other side of town, and DMRs in adjacent towns.
Another solution might just be to use a teleworker or IP phone.

We attempted to space two chassis with patch cables because of limited backboard space.
We had to go back to the stock cables.
The system would come online and run normally for days, but would exhibit odd behavior.
When the factory cable was put back into play the issues disapeared.

Hi Doghart,
Is there any noticeable difference between a regular CAT5 than the stock chassis cables from NEC ?
Thanks,
