I have just started to at a new company part of my stuff happens to be the phone system . We have NEC Electra Elite IPK II KTS using Dterm 80 phones "New to this system and phones" . One of our phones only goes to voice mail when you dial the extension. I have already checked to make sure that the DND and call fowarding is off but it still only goes straight to voicemail. I have also unpluged and pluged the phone back in several times. Any suggestions on what is wrong??

Can you call the extension internally? If so, transfer is set to no in the subscribers mailbox.

I'd check to make sure that the prime line actually has a key on the phone, and also that the phone really is the phone that you think it is.
What does it say when you pick up the phone? Do you get dial tone? Does a button light up? If you call another station, who does it say is calling (don't trust the labels, go by what the display says)?

Also, you can run a diagnostic on the phone itself:
unplug the phone. hold * and # plug in the phone release * and # follow the directions onscreen (which will lead you to push each button, usually twice) with visual and audible results. When finished, lift handset and hang up.
This will tell you if the phone itself is malfunctioning, and where.

Something else to try (I know this is old, but thought it might help someone down the road):
At the extension, hit speaker then 721 to turn on VOICE. You can also use SPKR 723 for DIAL if you ever WANT the phone to ring instead of page.
