Univerge SV8100 WebPro : 3.00

Hello,

I have 2 sites and Netlink connecting them but when I want to reboot my firewall and the PTP drops for a minute while its rebooting the phones all shut off right away frown and the system comes up into a Primary state.

I'm looking for a way to keep that from happening and for our phones to remain functional for incoming and outgoing calls but only loose the site to site capabilities.

Is this possible to achieve with Netlink or will I need to switch it to CCIS?

If CCIS is require for this does anyone know of an easy how to article or let me know how I can make the switch?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you need K-CCIS, you could adjust the netlink timers to wait longer for primary but doesnt sound what you want. ive never done ccis. wow sounds like you need to update software we are up to version 6/7 they have changed some netlink stuff along the way.

Thanks for the reply.

Would you happen to know what timers I would need to adjust and to what?

How hard is it to upgrade and where would I get the upgrade from? I am not a certified NEC Tech just the IT guy for this company.

Iw. I think you need to talk to your local NEC vendor in your area..

Thats just it, we have talked to them but getting them to give us an answer is like trying to pull teeth. That is the reason we are looking into a new vendor right now but in the mean time I am trying all I can to get a work around until we have someone come in and switch us over to a more independant solution.

I have to do quite a bit of config to our firewalls and I dont want to be limited to just doing it after hours because it causes the phones to go down.

All I am asking is for a way to make Netlink not reboot the phones when I reboot a firewall even if that means that the phones are not able to be used during it. The main problem is when people see the phones turn off they all call crying.

This a first I have heard of a complaint of this type, the system is doing what it supposed to do, stop rebooting the firewalls during business hours, if you don't like working after hours get out of the IT business.

Ditto, that is a feature of Netlink, for the remote systems to go into Primary, or, stand alone mode when the connection to the Primary system is lost, which WILL happen over the WAN. In telecom, we sometimes also need to do a reset, or reboot the system & too many times it is requested it be done after hours. Simply advise your users when you are going to do this or work late! I work OT all the time...easy money!

FWIW ALL phones will go down if you reset routers on ANY IP system. that are actively using them. I mean, I suppose you could buy some better routers that do not require you to reboot them to work.

@dans - You humor me acting like I'm fresh off the boat in IT but yet it seems you can't even grasp a couple simple questions that have been asked or show a little professionalism when some are asked.

I know it is what Netlink was designed to do! All I was wondering was if it is possible to delay what it was designed to do so I could reboot a firewall during business hours.

My “simple” questions:
In a normal IP based network/software solution there is such a thing called a "Timeout" that can be set and I am just wondering if there is something similar in Netlink that will delay the fail over until such a time has expired? If Netlink is incapable of doing this then what is my best option to get my 2 SV8100’s able to work independently of each other to where they are both Primary and are able to 4 digit dial between locations?

This is all I am asking here so no need to fire your 2 cents if it's not going to help answer my questions. I thought this is a support forum and not an AOL chat room.

Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

These forums are for end user questions, your question goes beyond that. Have your customer contact their NEC dealer, if they don't like the one they have there are others in Minnesota.
