I just use a 6" piece of parallel drop wire and cut about 1/2" of one conductor off on each end. I then strip the jacket off exposing the single copper-clad steel wire. One end is left straight for removing number card covers or finger wheels and the other end has a 90 degree bend to function as a hook.
I learned that trick from a NJ Bell technician a long time ago. There are some things that I just refuse to pay good money for.

I forgot all about the drop wire trick. I learned about it from an old friend in the mid '70s and carried one for years. Unfortunately I never ran into drop wire after the ....early '80s maybe, so I moved back to wood ones and then to the yellow plastic ones.

We used to do the drop wire thing too. I haven't seen any of the old aerial drop in a long time. It made a much better dial release tool than the actual tool.
I did have one of the tools Brisn was talking about, they did do a good job of removing wire from and cleaning the pins.

That's it !!! I'm gonna see if the company can spring for one or three( we only have 2 that would actually Know How to use it)

although I think I remember they used to cost around 15 bucks back in the 80's too.

KS number is one of the identifications Bell used for all their tools. Stands for 'Kearney Standard' I know a lot for a young guy

I tried some google searches and the only one I can come up with is the one on Sandman. I swear I've seen them someplace else.
I searched though all my old stuff too and can't find one.
