Re: "KS"
Over on the Antique Telephone Collectors Association forum, about nine zillion electrons lost their lives recently during a mind-numbing discussion about whether the K in KS stands for Kearny (in NJ, where there was a humungous Western Electric plant) of if it stands for Kellogg, who made telephone equipment for the independents, and occasionally for Bell.

You guys that would like some of the old drop wire, just let me know how many miles of it you need....still in service here and will be until it needs changing. I have some in the garage that I removed for various reasons. And yes, I use it for the same purposes.
The tool that you're talking about, I have here on the bench, but it had been used so much that the markings are worn off. It might have had a "NS" part number as well, at least up here. I'll see if I can find it.
I Haven't used this in years.....no need with BIX
Would this be it?

 That doesn't surprise me at all. Thanks for the offer Ed, but seldom need a release tool these days. I'll bet I could come up with a foot or two around here if need be. One of the Qwest guys here is actually older than me.

Wasn't the 980A, but same principle. I'm sure the 980A would work if you could find one. Looks like Sandman at 15 a pop is going to be the only place to find them.
