Anyone working with the new Vista yet ?
I've just put the Vista pre-release 1.0 on an older machine and so far so good...
Going to be a lot like the release of XP, most people are going to be really lost !
I'll let you know more after I play with this a few days.
This is a great site, so glad I stumpled on it.

I put one of the Vista pre-release candidates on a computer for a friend of mine. It seemed to be a release of XP with lots of eye candy and a bunch of stuff renamed and placed differently as to confuse the end user into thinking they have something really advanced. It has a couple of extra bells and whistles that are cool but isn't worth the wait or the money in my eyes, even more so if you want to have all the 3D eye candy going you have to have one hell of a video card, which most users don't consider unless they are hard-core gamers which won't want the resource hogging of Vista to begin with. Thats my two cents worth, anybody got change for a nickel?

I also have been running a beta of Vista on a dual core Pentium 4 but my onboard graphics chip is too wimpy to do "Aero" which is that cutesy transparent windows thing. I agree with Herk - the same stuff is all there - besides "Aero" and the security stuff (Microsoft horning in on McAfee/Norton/Trend and the rest of security software vendors), it's the same old operating system. I upgraded from XP Media Center Edition 2005, and Vista cannot handle the MCE interfaces as well, especially live TV which slows the machine down to a crawl, if it runs at all. I also need to play with it more before I can draw a valid conclusion. I will give it a chance and I am sure 70-100 million other people will buy it this year.

I tried RC1 for a little bit. I was not impressed...but only time will tell I suppose.

That's the last thing I need, a program from Micro$oft to install on the computer just to tell you if it will run their latest program... :bang:

We've all see it happen...the lastest and greatest gets released, and everyone jumps on it!!
If I don't absolutely need it, I sit back..and periodically monitor the latest "bug reports" on any new software releases.
Give the vendors time to satisfy the public, then I may consider what they're offering.

Might as well wait for "service pack 2" as they have done with all the others. I'm with Mike, if it ain't broke, I ain't fixin it. Mark

I forget, was it win2000 or XP that had over 64000 known bugs and already 6 months development on the service pack THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED?
