Hello everyone, I need help in understanding the concept of fax server boards/systems.
*what do the ports do. *how many inbound fax calls does each port handle? *how many inbound/outbound fax calls does each port handle? *How many lines does each port support *How do I determine how many ports are needed *If using DID faxing, how do i determine the amount of ports to get.

The 'PORT' connects the computer to a telephone line or extension. Each 'PORT' can handle 1 fax call at a time, either inbound or outbound. Each port can support 1 line or extension. Your fax software should be able to provide you with information about whether or not you need more, OR LESS, ports. Basically, you'll want to know how often all ports are in-use/busy in a 24 hour period. Also, what time the all-ports-busy happens. As an example,just because all ports are busy from 2PM-4PM weekday afternoons, it doesn't necessarily follow that you need more ports. How close to 'all-ports-busy' do you get at other times of the day? Is your primary target 'audience' affecting why it happens only between 2PM and 4PM? That depends on how the DID is arranged/programmed.If you are directing the DID's into a PBX, the DID number can be treated as a hunt group number that spreads the calls across 2 or more ports, depending on PBX programming. Or you can direct each DID to a specific port, giving you more in-depth information about usage.
