All parts are available from HP. I have replaced a few power connectors on various motherboards. The HP site has a link to the parts direct order form. Most of the connectors are between 10 and 15 dollars. They go out all the time because if you travel around with your laptop the power connector endures a lot of sideways stress from being stretched from side to side as you plug it in, unplug it, plug it in again. Very common repair. Screw kits - now that is a racket. A complete screw kit is 30 bucks for most laptops. Talk about highway robbery.

That's exactly why I did what I did! Now all of the parts I need are readily available for less than $10.00 even if I had to replace both connectors, less if it's only one end. And the way I have it now I will no longer have to take the darned thing apart to repair the problem and I do not have to pay HP anything! The benefit is in the time saved and the fact that I'll be back on line in minutes instead of days waiting for parts from HP.

But again, I have to say "Don't try this at home" unless you are willing to sacrifice a computer if you screw up because there are teeny-tiny micro-chips so close to the solder points on the mother-board that you can create more problems than you fix if you aren't very, very careful!

I use a great power pack charger for my HP laptop from BTI Battery Technology Inc. model VAN90A-190A. It was replaced by my service plan from Micro-Center.
There are many different sizes and I was so happy mine fit, I thought I was just getting the run arround, untill finially I got the right customer service agent who knew her stuff and in a few days It arrived. It has a grounded 3 way plug that plugs into the power pack and it has a 90 degree plug adapter which is plugged into a 5 foot cord with a quick disconnect for the plug adapter. call
