Our children are scattered across the country get together using the XBox web cam. The wife & I would like to also do this but my son tells me I can't use my laptop with web cam that I need to get an XBox to be able to join them.
Does anyone know of a way we all can web cam together? They don't have any other web cams but the XBox and I really don't want to buy one (XBox) for web cam only.

They must be using xbox live, which requires an xbox and a subcription to xbox live, which is about $10 a month.

Yea they are using xbox live. There really is no way around it other then buying everyone web cams and going over the internet with the laptops. Webcams are cheap!! Shouldnt be that bad getting one for everyone or atleast you and the wifey!

The xbox live silver subscription is free. The gold membership is what costs the 10 bucks a month. But with the silver subscription there will be no other charge other than the xbox itself. How much do you pay for LD calling your kids each year? The xbox and all the accessories you would need would run you somewhere around $300 bucks. I assume you already have an internet provider at home so this would all be a one time purchase that would give you video conferencing with your kids. Might be worth the money to you, do the math.

If all of the xbox users also have computers, they can simply plug their xbox webcam (it is really just a normal usb webcam) into the computer and you all can pick your favorite video conference software... there are plenty of free choices out there for the pc.
