Supposedly, if you download hyperterm.exe and hyperterm.dll from an XP machine you can copy them into your Vista or Win 7 machine and run HT.
From what I understand, Microsoft didn't want to pay the licensing fees for HT. I haven't tested the above "fix" (I don't have a Win 7 machine), but if you have trouble, the company that makes HT made a (paid) version for Vista, they might have one for Win 7 too.

I use Putty, It is down and dirty and free. but more feuture rich than HT

I started using Hyperterm Private Edition 6.3 when Vista discontinued Hyperterm in their basic offering and it has worked well for over a year. It was a discontinued free download.

Update.
I finally got Windows XP Pro to work as a virtual machine. In doing so I solved all of the problems I was facing.
Thanks for all of the help anyway. :toast:
I have a feeling this is going to be a hot topic in the near future so I'll be glad to offer any help I can in the future!
