I have set up a number of RULES for Outlook to follow when receiving emails. This way - as it is suppose to work - I can sort out my emails into different folders.

The one rule that does not seem to work is the MOVE TO FOLDER. There is a rule that says "send copy to folder" but this one says MOVE to folder.

When the rule works, it does not Move - it Copies therefore leaving a duplicate email behind.
Anyone know how to make the MOVE actually move it out of Folder-A and put it in Folder-B without leaving a copy in Folder-A?

Or is this just another Windows Thing that does not work?

I'm using Outlook 2003 with a couple of established "move rules" as well. In my case a copy gets left behind with a strikethrough line running across the message--indicating that it's slated for deletion.

The reason that happens to me is because I use IMAP and not POP. To fully clean up my inbox I have to choose Edit, then Purge Deleted Messages (message states like "deleted", by design, are tracked on the client side). I could assign a macro to that task, but it's not that big of a deal to me.

Any chance you're using IMAP?

I am using POP3 for my emails.

Double-check that you chose "move it to" rather than "move a copy to" clause in your rule.

While you're looking at the rule, be sure to clear the "on this machine only" check box (an item automatically added when you created the rule).

If you are unable to edit out the "on this machine only", then the rule was created from a factory template. In that case, you'll need to kill that rule and build a new one from scratch by first choosing "start from a blank rule".

I have cleared, re-checked double checked the MOVE and not the copy.

What is that "THIS MACHINE ONLY".
Yes, that was checked on many rules.
Didn't know what it was and it defaulted so I left it.

They now all have that check removed.
What is that for.

I will see what happens without the THIS MACHINE ONLY being checked.
