Im still trying to remotely keep a friends computer up and going ..she now says that it "makes noise " in the morning and is slow to start ..it sounds like maybe the HD is going ...She doesn't have the funds for a new one right now so I would like to clone the existing drive to a large external one she has just in case we will have something to work with ..does anyone have a free cloning program they like ? Ive found a few with Google but a recommendation is always good I'm going to try gbridge for this , it looks good anyone have any comments on it ?

Do a search for hiren's boot disk. It has ghost on it and it's free.

I usually use Clonezilla for this type of thing. If you want something that's point and click wizard this wouldn't be for you. If you are fairly comfortable with text-based setups then this would work for you. You can clone disk to disk or to an image file for back-up purposes.
Never used the above solutions that were mentioned, but almost everything out there that uses a linux liveCD is based on some sort of gparted.
