There is a lot of knowledge on this board and I thought maybe someone would have some advice.

My wife and mother in law are starting a small home based business with hopes of eventually having a store front. I'm exploring an idea of being able to have a point of sale software on computer that when a transaction is placed it is also entered into Quickbooks or similar software. Customers will be picking up and paying for products from the house. Ideally this software could also be used at the future store front. Any idea's?

I do not know how tech savvy you are, but we use this and are extremely happy with it: https://www.phreesoft.com/

It does require that you:
1) Know linux and can maintain it
2) Know how to install things on a "LAMP" stack

Once it's installed, it's pretty bullet proof. You access it from a web browser so your accounting info is anywhere you need it to be. If you do go this route I'd recommend you use SSL (just like your bank). If you need any help getting it up and running let me know, I can give you some tips/pointers.

If you want something that is more point-click-done, then QuickBooks is your solution. Considering they make everything for it, I am sure there is a POS and CC Gateway out there for you. I have used it and I didn't care for how it managed it's accounting, but to each their own. smile

I love this software package: https://www.dhpos.com/pos.htm

The web site is a little strange looking, but the software is rock solid. The best part is that the system requirements are so small that it will run on practically any computer. It supports a plethora of hardware like bar code scanners, pole displays, cash drawers and receipt printers.

And best of all, it's FREE!

Stay as low tech or old tech as possible. You'll know when it's time to upgrade!

Sorry I didn't see this one sooner...POS is actually my specialty...

Try AIMSI by tri-technical systems...just google it. Loaded with features and can grow with you, so you aren't overwhelmed with stuff you don't need right off the bat.
