Not quite what Bill was just describing, but still an IRQ problem.

On a Key Voice 10.4 that recently had a hard drive go bad, after reinstalling it, Windows (2000) kept wanting to assign IRQ 5 to the sound card (ISA, like the D41H cards). If I remove the sound card, the voice boards work fine. If the sound card is installed, they don't work, due to a conflict.

I thought I ran across this on another similar deal, where VM and Windows had to be reloaded, but I can't remember what I did to correct it. I can't seem to apply a manual resource change to the sound card. I believe it is a Soundblaster 16.

The voicemail was originally setup on Windows NT 4, but was upgraded a long time ago to Windows 2000. Like I mentioned, I've seen this happen before, I just can't seem to remember what I did last time to remedy it.

Thanks!

Does the sound card have IRQ jumpers on it that you can move to 2,7, or 9? Just out of curiousity, why would you need the sound card for a voicemail server?

It's used for playback of prompts and greetings. It just makes it a little easier to administer than having to use the phone each time you want to playback a greeting from a certain box.

All of Key Voice's Windows voicemails came with them, as far as I know, and the machines all shipped with speakers. There had to be some reason for them being there.

Been a while, but can't you set the sound card up in: My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Mangler (OOPS, I mean Device Manager!)?

I'm not sure whether the card has a jumper setting for IRQ. I'm guessing not, since it will switch to another IRQ if installed after I have the Dialogic boards installed. However, then on the next reboot, the sound card grabs the IRQ 5, thereby causing the conflict. I'm just wondering if there's something I can change in the CMOS, or if there's another way.

As for using Device Manager, it will only allow me to select some predetermined settings, none of which changes the IRQ from its current setting. All that changes with them is the memory location.

Try deleting the sound card in device manager and reboot. Hopefully pnp will reassign another IRQ. I have had this problem before and had to try a number of things to fix it. I think this worked. Also you might be able to reserve irq5 in the bios untill pnp installs the card at another IRQ. John
