I want to move my Keyvoice system to some more current hardware; more memory faster processor, etc. First, is it possible to just move the boards and hard drive to another box? Second what are some considerations. My system is DOS-based corporate version 8.2.

Thanks,
Rich

This has come up countless times in this forum and in the Comdial forum. Do a search, and you'll find many pitfalls that people have fallen into. There's really quite a bit to your question, and really more than should be covered here. Since it's already been covered in numerous aspects, try searching for your answer from existing threads. After that, you might have some more specific questions.

Can't sneak anything past you. I searched a little. Maybe my keywords are off-base.

I guess the biggest pitfall is the memory and partition limitation for DOS. IT doesn't make any sense to put an 80GB HDD in the box when you can only use 2GB of it. I guess it wouldn't make much sense to upgrade the hardware of a DOS system. A Windows system would.

Your biggest hurdle is your voice mail boards are probably ISA. Good luck in finding any mother board that has ISA slots.

I moved a small office 8.5 from the original box to a pentium box about a year ago. The mother board on the original, fried. Everything worked and is still working. I am not pc hardware literate so that's why I have a CG as a friend. Will a swap work for you?

I have a PC with an ISA slot in it, PIII, 128MB RAM. I was thinking that I could just move the voice board and the HDD to the Pentium box and everything "should" be smooth as silk. The theory was to take advantage of the faster processor and memory. Not being DOS literate, I wouldn't know where to begin with the memory.

The other thing is that the BIOS had user set config for the HDD for some reason. Not sure why but I the new box's BIOS doesn't have those settings. It's either auto or disabled. I hope the new machine can read the original drive. I could always copy the partition to another drive and use the new drive to test the new system.

Do you have any issue with lagging? If not, why is the faster processor necessary? This IS DOS that we're talking about. It can run on a 386 (or less), without much problem.

To be completely honest, we do have some lagging but not much. The move to better hardware is not necessary yet. I am running a disaster recovery scenario and good luck finding hardware to match, right. If I need to move the VM in the event of a failure, I need to do it using something newer. I can't remember the last time I heard the words 386, let alone seen one outside of our VM box. And, what is EDO memory again? The current box runs fine, but if....

Another subject but kind of related..I would be indebted for a copy of the 8.2 corp office software. I have everything else; dongle, hardware, manual, etc.
