I have installed a used Merlin Legend Mail Release 3.0 Multi-Language system and it is not answering calls placed directly to the extensions on the 012 ports. The 012 is a 517G vintage 3. I can place a telephone call to same ports and answer w/analog device (internal ring generator works). Red and green LEDs toggle on system startup and no more lights on ringing or idle.

How can I default the system to the factory password and access the system using the serial port. I have not been able to obtain any GOOD maintenance documents. I have the Merlin Legend Mail R3.0 Installation, Programming, and Maintenance Manual and the Upgrade manual of the same and none of them go into enough detail. Any help would be greatly appreciated as the ATT/Lucent/AVAYA documentation I have is insufficient.

Here is a capture file from startup.

After you boot, do the green lights on the voice board stay on? if they don't you might have an issue with the board. The hard drives for the Rel. 3 also had issues. I think Avaya is still supporting this, but i could be wrong. Even if they do, they are now charging for support.

The LEDs do not stay illuminated. They extinguish immediately after bootup.

That's almost assuredly a bad board. Look on eBay, there's usually a seller of spare NOS boards on there that gets ~~$20-30 per 2 port card.

I have a Merlin Mail Rel2. I call the VM and it answer and immediatly says "mailbox is full. Transfer to system operator" and I am unable to break the cycle with dialtone. No m,atter what I do I always get the same message and get transfer to teh operator. Any thoughts?
There is a DB9 serial port. I can communicate with it. Can I access the system via serial port? If so, what would the system password be?

You've tagged onto a 3 1/2 year old thread that should've been in Avaya in the first place. Please repost there, and I'm sure you'll get some guidance
