Another strange request...
I have a customer with an amanda workgroup for windows system. I need to pull a vm off the system and convert it from a .vox file to a .wav file for law enforcement use. I have the file from the amanda system, but i can't seem to get a decent conversion of it. It sounds choppy and distorted compared to playback via the amanda. It appears the .vox file is recorded in adpcm @ 8000Hz. I tried amanda tech support, but they aren't answering their phones again.

How about calling the customer, leaving a test voicemail message, grabbing that off the amanda system, and then posting that here? It should be the same quality, same issues you are having with the conversion as with the real voicemail file you are working with.

Using the Amanda Workstation client you can log in over the network, retrieve the message and archive to disk. The client software converts for you. The Old client works better for this, not the outlook client.

Audacity is a great free tool for converting audio files. It has support for Dialogic ADPCM built in.

thanks to all who have replied! i've tried a few different converters, all have made the resulting .wav file distorted-sounding. i'll be trying the conv32.exe that amanda has, when i figure out how to use it. bill

thanks to Phonemeister, and all others who replied!! There is a file in the Amanda system that does the conversion, it's CONV32.exe. That produced the best result. The customer has a good copy of the vm message to give to the authorities for further action.
