when you get a T1 from a Long distance company (SPrint, MCI, AT&T, Qwest...) ordinarily when you make a call the caller id shows unavailable.
is there a way for the carrier to put a name and number on all outbound calls on a T1?

Depends on what equipment you're using.
Caller ID in the case of a PRI has to be transmitted by your equipment. Since all of the switching, etc. is done on your side of the ball game, it's left up to you.
I'm not sure what ANI displays though if a call is coming from a PRI.

Contact your supplier. If you are using their switching the answer is yes. At least this is true for AT&T and I'm sure it is for the rest.

this is not a PRI. it is a full T1 from the long distance company, not a CLEC. My experience the outbound CLID will say "Unavailable" since they are not a local carrier.
i've recently seen this done, and i have never seen it before so i was just curiousif maybe i was mistaken.

In most cases they can send out a number for the T1 when calling out. Have a few set up this way sending out there main number on outbound calls.

From what I've seen, regardless of PRI or "full T1" (which I don't quite understand what you mean by that, if this is a voice T1 it's a PRI...) the last channel carries the caller ID information on it. Maybe the CLEC, or whomever can automatically put that information into your outbound call, although I haven't seen that.

T-1 & PRI aren't exactly the same thing. With PRI you've got 23 B channels that carry your voice and/or data and 1 D channel that carries "housekeeping" data for all of the other channels. This is where you get your ANI and a variety of other functions. With the T-1 you get 24 useable channels, each of which has it's own small "data channel" attached (you get 1.536 Mbps useable from the 1.544 Mbps you actually buy). The carrier can provision the channels in a number of different ways. I've found that some carriers are willing to give you features others won't.

On a T1, you can have the carrier place your calling name and number on all circuits of the T1. The same info will appear on all 24 circuits. I have this happening on a few of my accounts.
On a PRI, the phone system sends out the number for id.

OK never knew that about a "normal" T1. So it sounds like this is a carrier problem indeed.

A T1 provided by a long distance carrier originates from a Class 4 tandem. Class 4 switches (Lucent 4ess, Alcatel 600e, Nortel 250) do not provide a 10 digit phone number. Many Long distance carriers are also CLECs now, this is why you may have seen CLID originate from a T1. In this case, this T1 would have originated from a Class 5 switch (Lucent 5ess, Nortel DMS100, DMS500). Only a carrier classified as a CLEC can provide a local phone number regardless of whether or not the T1 is PRI. If you want to deliver CLID you must change your service that is on the T1 to a local service or you may be able to use FGD protocol and send ANI from YOU'RE switch.
