I am installing two key systems that are T1 compatable(two different locations). I want to allow both sites to call each other dialing thier 3 digit extension. If a point to point T1 is installed that will not allow the sites to use it for their local/long distance calls - correct? Set me straight on this - i'm trying to come up with something that is effecient yet cost effective. their main site has about 30 phones and the secondary only about 15.

You can program it either way. What kind of switches?

Norstar MICS key systems. Are you telling me I can install a point to point T1 With a T1 card in each system and both sites can also use that same T1 for local and long distance? I was told that I would have to have another T1 circuit installed in at least one of the key systems(with another T card in that system) for local and long distance.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I do not believe you can have a T split like that. I thought you wanted to make a call from System A using System B's CO lines.
You'll need another T1, PRI or copper lines.

Nfc is right, it can't be split that way as far as I know. One system will need some other way of getting outside lines. What type of system is it? You might get more specific help and programming examples by moving this topic to a forum that specializes in your system.

Norstar key system. Thanks for the reply. How about this cocept? What If I give each key system its own dedicated T1 for local and long distance; isn't it possible to then tweak the routing in each key system that when they dial a certain digit(s) the key system will insert digits and allow for 'direct dialing' over the T1(I don't know if I'm making it very clear).

Not sure where your located but many of the CLEC's have bundeled T's now. LD and Local, Point to Point and internet all on the same T1. We have done this application many times with samall to mid size offices. Not sure with the MICS but on a Telrad you can also have centralize voicemail and attendent. ------------------ ssimpson@oneringtelecom.com Need a Telrad Programmer Kit? Telrad Programmer Kits

Abovealltel, I don't know if tou've solved your problem or not but for what it's worth you can check out the "Modular ICS 6.1 Installer Guide" starting with page 99 "Networking with Norstar". It describes various configurations of private networks. It might be as simple as having your T1 vendor "provision" some E&M Trunks and installed the appropriate trunk cards (as well as plenty of programming). I hope this is of some help. Larry
