My house has Cat 5 cable from a cable modem going into my linksys router for internet

My office has a Cat 5 cable from a T1 going into a Cisco Router for internet.

My question is what is the difference between the 2 different Cat 5 cable carrying internet coming from 2 different sources?

1. Cat 5 cable comes from Comcast high speed cable internet modem.(Linksys router)

2. Cat 5 cable which comes from a T1.(Cisco Router)

Are they both basically taking a Cat 5 input containing access to the internet and routing/distribute Internet data traffic right?

Can you use a Linksys router on the Cat 5 cable from the T1 and the Cisco on the Cat 5 cable from the broadband cable?

I am trying to figure out why a T1 router cost at least $1,000 and a linksys router cost $50 both to take an Cat 5 input and route data packets from the internet.

Thanks.(sorry if this is a stuid question but I honestly don't know)

The cables are the same but they are not carrying the same signaling. The cable modem has already converted the signaling to ethernet and the Linksy is accepting it as such. The Cisco accepts a T-1 signal from a CSU or direct from a smart jack and converts the trafic back and forth from ethewrnet and T-1 signaling. the reason that they both use a Cat5 is that their respective interfaces are base on an 8p8c jack (Ed, notice I did not say RJ-45) The pins that they communicate on are different but the Cat5 cable is straight thru on each pin so it works for both layouts
