The company I work for is switching from XO to US Lec due to lower price and some techs have worked with US Lec before. Right now the T-1 hits a channel bank (Carrier Acccess Adit 600) and splits into POTS analog lines that go into our older AT&T system (Merlin).

I wanted to know if I needed our phone vendor Avaya to do anything for this switch over to occur. We are getting integrated service (phone and data with US Lec).

I beleive that the new US Lec 64 block just needs to be cross connected with the old block already in existence.

Thank you in advance.

There shouldn't be much more that needs to be done. Usually the clec's want the equipment vendor on site so that they can handle there side of the equipment. Are you in S. Jersey?

You definitely want your vendor on site. The CLEC techs normally won't do it but in any case they should not be doing the cross connects to your equipment under any circumstance. As an example what would happen if they damage a line port or a entire card? This type of damage would not be covered by a warranty or maintenance contract and you would be responsible for the cost not to metion any downtime. So an attempt to save a couple of hundred bucks could cost thousands.

Generally CLEC's prefer to have the customer's vendor on site. Some CLEC's will not do cross connects at all so generally they will ask you if you have a vendor and to have them on site or if they don't that they can recommend one generally that they partner with.

I have worked many USLEC CSRs (customer service report)in the past from porting customers over to another CLEC. I hope that you have taken into the consideration that USLEC has the most complicated structure in the industry. But to answer your question, you should be approaching the facilites scheduling by now. Avaya must be present if they are terminating the lines into your phone system. They will ask for a cut sheet from USLEC, they should already have this after receiving the CSR and LSR, to ensure the lines have not been crossed and everything has been bagged, tagged, and connected. I consult T1,DSL and PRI customers daily, so I do not want you to spend or potentially lose $1,000 vs. $195. Best of luck.
