Can anyone tell me what will be required of us to extend a DS3 for an existing customer? We usually turn these away, but this time, we can't. It's going from the basement to the 10th floor in an existing riser conduit. I need to know the cable type, connector types and any concerns that I should have. Thanks in advance for your help.

DS3s usually ride 2 pieces of coax, terminated on BNCs. I think it is 734 or 735A cable. Somehow I remember a post about this a while back...I think you might have asked it...

This:

As far as extending it, you need to use coax cable with BNC's (Bayonet Neil Connectors) only. Do not try to use "F-type" connectors that you would use for cable TV. However, RG6 cable should do just fine (two runs, one transmit the other receive). When extending it don't forget to check the line build out or you may run bit errors even if the cable is okay. You are better to over drive the signal a little, if in doubt.
Good luck! DS3?s are actually very easy to work with. Even easier if you have the proper tools and test equipment.

Hope it helps.

If you are going torun it you may want to put in a six pack. That will give them the advantage of having 3 DS3 at a future date. Just watch your ends as Bill said above and use BNC's. Hope that helps

Yeah, guys you are both right. Unfortunately I had to leave the office early and couldn't wait any longer for an answer. I just called my supplier, got their recommendations and paid a ton of money for a roll of 734A plenum cable. It is ten times the cost of RG59 or RG6! We will be terminating it with male BNC's, two runs, transmit and receive.
