I've looked and still looking for some tips and pointers on a problem I'm having at a site I support.I'll try to describe the current build out and what I'm trying to accomplish. The existing local wiring from the smart jack is approx a little over 1000 ft on old house trunks to my equipment.I've configured my CSU/DSU to the hottest gain for the +655 feet. The circuit was running so so (taking a few errors) for over 7 years until a lightning strike a few weeks ago start making the interface flap, CSU/DSU restarting.I was wanting to move it over to the customers Single mode fiber and bought some FOMs to do just that. After hours on the phone with Fido's tech support I'm still having issues with them and the circuit is still on the old copper. Now I'm considering letting the telco extend the demarc for them to be responsible for the complete circuit.Any suggestions, advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. help

I'd sure pay the telco move their NTU if I were you. Their side of the card is a lot more tolerant of cable issues than the customer's side. I am sure that they will charge an arm and a leg to do this, but in the grand scheme of things, I think that it will save money. At least that way, they are responsible for the circuit to a point that's a lot closer to your equipment.

Using media converters in order to use fiber is going to be more trouble than it's worth. If the circuit is for data only, then yes they will work. For voice applications, you'll have more unexplained troubles than you'll care to deal with

By the way, welcome . You will find a ton of information available here.

It's been a couple of years, but I used to install a lot of T-Carrier. We installed a Charles Industries 3192 Repeater (the model with the suffix -9P is probably the one you want). The unit mounts in an STS (Span termination shelf). I don't know pricing on the units, but I don't think they were very expensive.

Charles Industries was in Illinois. Their products worked real well and I don't remeber ever going back for repairs on them.
