Actually have two questions; one, how do you test a telcos smart jack without a high dollar tester? We have a customer that we have to visit regularly that unplugging patch cord from smart jack and plugging it back in fixes what appears to be some kind of lock-up. My boss can't justify spending the money for a tester when so little of our business consists of T1/PRI.
Second; I tried posting a picture in my profile via Photobucket and it doesn't post with my name in posts. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance!!

Have a ticket opened with the carrier when the circuit is down. If they can loop the A side of the card clean then it could be either a bad cable or a bad B side of the smartcard.
My guess is either a bad cable, DSU, or smartjack. It really sounds like the smartcard is actually hanging a loop that gets released when you drop the B side and plug it back in.
Good luck.

Jeff the removal and plug in of the jack is causing a hard loop. Your equipment may be the fault here.
As for your pic. You need to create an "avatar" 70x70 and update your avatar to your new photo bucket image.

It's a Pan 1232 w/ PRI expansion module. I never have trouble with the line group that is POTS. It's programmed to seize a PRI line when 9 is dialed. And it always resets and starts working after we unplug then replug. And no, there is no CSU. Just smart jack and PRI expansion card.

If you dont want to spend the $$ for a piece of CPE that tests the SJ, just call you LEC of CLEC...I know with One Comm, we will test from CO as well as the LEC. One Com doesnt charge for the legacy Conversant or CTC ntwks, so abuse it.

Moving this to T-1.
Next time unplug your equipment at the equipment end, I'll bet the same thing happens. Unplugging anywhere is going to cause a re-sync, which it more than likely why you come back up. This will be a problem in the equipment, your switch.
