Heres the scoop.... 1. I have Linksys wireless router (Ver. 2) with Linksys Range Extender (Ver. 1) to send internet across the street. 2. Wireless router gets hit by lightning and is messed up. 3. Purchase new Linksys wireless router (Ver. 3.1) - works great! Except the Range Extender doesn't. 4. Called Linksys - said Ver 1 Extender will not work on Ver. 3.1 router. Now, does anyone know where I might find another Range Extender (Ver. 2)? I know what you're thinking. Wireless access point won't work...no cat 5 connection nearby. Or, is there another solution to get my signal across the street (about 250 feet)? Preferably an inexpensive one, I blew my emergency budget on the router! Linksys has a version 2 out there, so it's probably available at the usual online retailers. I did a quick search for "WRE54G" on pricegrabber.com, and you can also find it at Best Buy and CompUSA.
In the case of the online retailers, your best bet would be to call in the order, to insure you get version 2. Some of them may have old stock, so you'd end up with another version 1.
Flash the router and extender with the latest firmware, and you should be back in business.
