Here is my problem and I'm looking for a solution. I have a wireless network. I want a receiver to receive the wireless signal, and convert it to a ehternet connection, then I can plug it into my desktop computer to gain internet access. Is there such a thing. I have read some descriptions and some units seem to indicated thay do this, but I would like some opinions. Thanks John

In this circumstance these are known as "bridges". Some AP will have a setting that will allow you to put the unit in bridge mode, however most dont.

These APs do bridging as well, but that's not what John is trying to do. Bridging would be point to point between two APs using a dedicated wirless link between the two devices.
In this scenario the AP is acting as a client in an existing point to multi-point network. Really it's more like a switch with a wireless port.

A "wireless bridge" is exactly what he is trying to do.

Use a Linksys WET54g if you have to have the connection via ethernet, or a USB WiFi adaptor, or a PCI WiFi NIC card. The USB WiFi adaptor is probably the cheapest and easiest, everybody makes them. Get one with a cable to extend the adaptor out from behind the PC.

Why not just a wireless NIC?
