So I have a computer running Vista Business that has been accessing a network share on a Windows 2000 machine perfectly fine!

Now all of a sudden it can't access that network share at all, keeps complaining about invalid password. I know the password is correct! Nothing has changed on EITHER machine. It's nuts.

Anybody run into this problem yet? Anyone have any solutions or things to try?

Thanks,
-David

The solution is to turn off Windows Automatic Update.

I have had numerous client computers and servers fail because of Windows Automatic Update. There is nothing like coming in to your office on the morning of an important event and finding your computer won't boot. If you must apply updates, wait until the day before a weekend or holiday.

Check your Windows Event Manager logs to see what update coincided with you troubles. Then go into Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs and remove it. Or if you have the patience try Windows System Restore

Try adding the machine in question to local intranet w/in IE7

tools> internet options> security> local intranet> sites.

Turn off your LAN firewall. What often happens is that one machine will get assigned a new IP and that is not in the exclusion list in the firewall. Be sure that the guest account on the W2K machine is on. Do not use blank passwords, that will cause problems in Vista. That's three things to check.

Ah, I found something. Start > Run > secpol.msc Under Local Policies, Security Options there is an option "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" if you change it to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" everything started to work again smile

HTH someone else.
