I have an AP that needs to be configured with 2 VAP (customer and admin); we tagged the router port as promiscuous (Primary 10) and the physical admin ethernet ports as vlan 11 (host). They get an IP address fine, and talk to each other.
We tagged both VAP as 13(customer) and 11 (admin) and the Ethernet port of the AP as promiscuous; doesn't work. Non-tagged; doesn't work. Host (11-12 or 13) nothing works either. Missing something?
Yes, I'm a frenchie; have a problem with that?? Well, I do!!

Is promiscuous the same as "trunk mode"?

No, doesn't have anything to do with it; promiscuous will talk to all vlans...

That's what "trunk mode" means as well. Packets are passed for all Vlans the port is a member of.
BTW, what do you mean by AP? Access Point? And what's VAP?

AP= Access Point
VAP= Virual Access Point; for each VAP I assign a VLAN ID and a SSID. Most access points have 8 (from 0 to 7) inactive VAP; well almost; 0 is default.
As for Vlans, we tried private and 802.1Q; my first post was about private; we are now trying to make it work in 802.1Q; not doing great so far...

Hmmm, I assume private=access - meaning the port is locked to that VLAN, no tagging required.
Sounds like there's no reason your original setup shouldn't work as long as the wired "promiscuous" ports were members of both VLANs...

What kind of hardware are you working with? The terminology can vary a lot between vendors.

promiscuous isolated and community usually refer to private vlans. promiscuous talks to anyone community only talks to promiscuous ports as well as ports within the same community isolated only with promiscuous ports like clinton said some more information about the hardware vendor would help
