But back to the the orginal problem. Is your account with comcast; business or resi? Most cable companies will not give out static ip for resi accounts, for obvious reason. On the up side, my address rarely changes. I had a cox ip for nearly three years before it changed. If you have a router connected that stays on all the time you will find it almost never changes.... and since it is your system it is easy enough to reprogram on the rare occasion that it happens.

You can get a static IP. You will probably need to switch from a residential account to a commercial account though. Usually it's about $30-$40/month more. I just ordered a static IP from Comcast yesterday.
