Hello All:
I have a Lantronix UDS-10 device that I am trying to connect to my COMDIAL FXII switch (release 17A). I have it connected with the correct pin-out I believe, I had to contact Lantronix directly and still have a question whether it is DCE or DTE wiring, but either way I am having some issues. It looks like I am connecting to the unit, but get a message that says "The login has failed, check to make sure the communication parameters are correct".
So my question is really: Has anyone else connected your COMDIAL switch and these UDS-10 devices together? Can you offer me any advice?
I can give any further info needed.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.

I read your query about the uds-10 device and think I found a solution for modem sharing for one of my customers. I'll have the device on the bench this weekend and connect it to my comdial. I'll let you know what happens.

Well I didn't forget you! I finally got the uds-10 unit and made all connections for modem use. The default setting will work for you. you must program your IP address into the unit. use 3001 in the redirector setup and and 14001 in the uds-10 setup. You will need a null modem too. The setup for modem the user guide talks about is NOT what you want to modify. I've had my unit connected to a modem through my network and direct connected through my network all without incident. This little device is great. Let me know how it works out.

It seems that I had all the settings correct in the device and pretty much the wiring (actually too much), but ultimately had the wrong connection equipment. I had an 8-pin modular instead of a 6-pin…damn specifics :-)

Here's what we have to get this to work:

-Lantronix UDS-10 or UDS100 Serial Device Server

-Radio Shack Modular/EIA Adapter Kit (Cat No. 276-1405A) -- (6 Pin Modular to DB25 Male)

-Wiring is as follows:
Red wire --> Pin 2 of DB25 Transmit)
Green Wire --> Pin 3 of DB25 (Receive)
Black Wire --> Pin 7 of DB25 (Ground)

(depending on the cord used to connect the PBX to the UDS…you may need switch Pin 2 and 3)

-I configured the UDS device to have an internal IP address on our network, but if needed…you could actually have them on the Internet with a public IP address, just be weary of security there. When needed, I can now VPN into our site and then attach to our 2 switches via VMMI all from home.

-I used TCP port 10001 for connectivity to the device.

-Also, MOST IMPORTANT... This must be plugged into COM1 or COM2 only on the switch.

That's what I have…works very well. Thank you for all your guys' help in solving this issue for all of us. If you have any questions or problems getting yours up and running, please feel free to give me a call.
