Our Comdial DXP is setup for auto attendant. After a caller dials into an extension and before the call would normally go to vmail, we would like the caller to be presented with the option of leaving a vmail message or pressing O to reach the operator.

It seems like I might be able to create a route box and somehow place it between the mailbox ringing and leave a vmail option. I can then record a message indicating press 1, press 2, etc on the route box. It seems in theory it would work.Before I attempt to make this happen I want to confirm I'm on the right path.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul

I'm certainly not an expert on this....but we do service a few Comdial Keyvoice voice mails----on page 8-30 of my KeyVoice manual are options that you can select in each VM box----"If you wish to force the caller to choose an option select WAIT FOR DIGIT. Then your greeting should be:
This is (John DOE)I'm sorry I'm not avilable right now. Press 1 to leave a message or press ......"0" for the operator
....or what ever choices that you want to give the caller.
In the Digit part of the set-up---you will have to tell the system that "Zero" -"0"--is (for example)Extension 100---or 120---or whatever the "operator" is.
This may not be exactly what you want---but you can play around with a box before changing all of them.
Hope this sets you in the right direction.

This is the basic idea of what I was looking to do. Since we lost our receptionist it's difficult to have a customer call in and try several extensions before getting a 'live' person. We thought about the ACD queue but it's not really effective in our environment.

I'll play around and see where I wind up.

DTMF: I'm using a Keyvoic V 8.2 DOs based

You may want to set up dial by name and also you may want to look into department calling. If you don't have a receptionist. use it for a general mailbox and give the caller an option to dial a department wear you can set up a group of phones to answer.
hope I made sense with this post.

The post makes perfect sense.

We already have a dial by name setup. I've also hid the ceo and vps exts so as to shield them from cold calling.

The problem is if a customer calls in and finds the extension they want but the person is not there to answer their call, I would like to give them an option to go bak to the dial by name or punch out to the Operator. The Operator task I have shared amongest four exts who don't mind answering the phone all day - bundled in an ACD box.

Since we are on the ACD box topic, how do i set it so the calls hears rings while the calls bounces from ext to ext in the acd box. Often callers hang up because of the dead air.

The caller won't hear ringing. Hook up music to your system for the callers to hear.
Also make sure that you have the users put the single digit option in the personal greetings.
As was suggested earlier, get one box set up the way you want it them program the rest.

Ok, I have been fiddling around with this for awhile. I'm getting much closer but still have a few questions.

The manual I have " System Supervisor and Subscriber Guide" does not have a section 8 -30. It ends on 2.10 - Exiting a mailbox. It does explain how to have the mailbox WAIT FOR DIGIT but does not tell me where I can go to DEFINE the digits. The internal digits seem to be as follows:
0 = takes me back to main route
1 = leave message
2 = page
3 = GO TO BOX
4 = Same as mailbox number
5 = announce call
6 = music ??
7 = ?
8 = ?
9 = transfer to GO TO BOX

How do I change these default options?

DTmf - I did add music to the on hold feature but it still has dead air
Call comes into main route *** press 0 for operator *** transfers to ACD box **** dials first ext in box **** dials second ext *** dials third ext **** ALL THE WHILE IS DEAD AIR (caller hangs up in frustration). Ring count set to 1 on ACD and mailboxes. I do have music when on 'regular hold' and when queued.

How do I set up a department dial? How does it differ from an ACD box?

Thanks again!
