Could anyone tell me why after about 10 sec on the dx-80 voice mail it cuts you off trying to record your message. I have a customer who changes his greeting daily and leaves about a 20 sec or so greeting, after about 15 tries it finally goes. We have tried changing handsets, phones. I think if i remember correctly that there is a time limet forthe greeting but that is set to like 60sec any help would be greatly appreciated

That happened a few times to me with the 7243 8 port hard drive. I was showing new customers how to set up greeting. Once when it happened I noticed I was still logged into the voice mail through the Remote system administration(laptop). I logged out and it was fine. Another time it happened I simply turned the system off, waited about 30 seconds and the turned it on. The customers said it hasn't happened since. If restarting doesn't work then we'll compare settings.
Which V.M are you working with?

I'd wait until JWooten or CMDL_GUY give a reply----but it seems like your customer might be recording a "greeting" in the "name" spot. I've had customers try that. Have you gone in as administrator and listened to his "name" and his "greeting"?
Just a thought.

Racedog brings up a go point,I have seen customers do that all the time, in fact I have seen Comdial employees (non tech) do the same. But to be honest with you I did very little with the DX-80 while at Comdial and even less with it's voice-mail. I will have to let others that have more experience with this product answer.

He isn't trying to record with a speaker phone is he? I've had it happen where the mic shuts it down and cuts off the recording.

No I thought of that too, Its crazy. And it doesnt matter what phone he tries to use either, but i did notice that if he called in from a phone line on a systems phone or cell phone it would work.

What you are getting is probably the DSP's in the Voice mail detecting what they think is a hangup tone, also known as "Talk Off".

The key to this is in the "Technical Information Screen"
Look at the settings for seconds of silence and for seconds of non-silence.
Set these to 15 seconds of silence and 99 seconds for non-silence.

After you set these and you start getting complaints of dead air messages due to the CO's not sending a disconnect signal or a disconnect signal about 30 seconds after the calling party hangs up. Set the value for min message in VM.cfg to 10.
