I work for a small telephone company and we have a dsu 2. We have just put in a new voice mail system for our customers that has nothing to do with the dsu 2 but when customers call us about their vm we try to check it for them by calling from the dsu 2 phone system and any number with a 7 in it does not work. We can call any number with a 7 in it and it works fine from a 500 desk top phone. I have tried to change the DTMF tone length from 60 msec to 1040 msec and even tried IST trough dialing on and off.
Thanks for any suggestions
David

first put a butt set on the line you dial out on just to monitor your call, listen for your 7 to be toned through from your system to the vm. Next have someone watch the line status screen of the voicemail and see what the vm sees when you dial the 7 from the dsu & from a butt set. You could also monitor the incoming call at the vm site with a butt set.
This is a weird one. Let me know what these tests tell you. And what is the vm and phone system your calling in to?

I have put a butt set on the line coming in to the the dsu II and everything works fine.
The voice mail system is the from the phone company it has nothing to do with the dsu II
no one has any trouble unless they dial through the dsu II and use a seven.

Thanks David

Which means your hear good DTMF of all digits at least 1/2 second long right?

The voice mail system is the from the phone company.
So it's a service provided by the Telco, like here we call it "Answer Call"?

it has nothing to do with the dsu II
no one has any trouble unless they dial through the dsu II and use a seven.

Ok so give me the senario, what are you using the seven for? Retrieving a message? Going to a mailbox? You are describing this as though you think the problem is with the DSU if you hear good DTMF through the DSU and it is an adequet length, it ain't your dsu, it's something at the other end or in bettween, like maybe a repeater on the Telco side.

Another thing to consider is are you having an problems dialing any other locations that have seven in their phone number? This would isolate it to the external VM. A digit grabber on the CO side of the DSU would really help.

your right big, a digit grabber or calling other numbers with a 7 would be a good logical test. I'm having a little trouble grasping exactly what the picture is though.
No wonder tech support starts with "is your system plugged into a working electric outlet"

It has to be in the DSU II that is the only place i am having the trouble. I work in the central office of the phone company the phone system is setting in the next room and the vm system is in the room where i work it is vm that we sell our custormers. I have tried it from a lot of other telephones that are not on the dsu and have no trouble.
I was just hopeing that you could tell me to try different on the dsu or if thier is something wrong with the dsu

DMS,
Before we drop this case off the radar, tell me this. Can you dial me at 717-442-1099 and get to my auto attendant through the DSU?
if you can go to ext. 107. I just have to know.

DMS,
Are you telling us that you work in a central office on a DMS(100-500) I would imagine and you have a comdial system(DSU) that has trunk lines that come from the DMS(or what ever CO switch you have)...deep breath....and you are trying to dial into the voice mail that the CO switch is connected to.
Can you dial a 7 from any phone. Have you tried it at another station? Did you try replacing the set at the troubled location
