I have inherited phone system maintenance duties for a medium sized construction site office. We have all Comdial gear and VM. When relocating an employee recently, I was under the impression that we had the automatic set relocation option installed, but apparently we do not. I would like to know how I can re-program an extension number into a phone. The phones are 8012S-GT's, the cabinet says Fx PSx-MSPS and the VM system is the Comdial Small Office Call Processing System. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not an expert with the FX systems for Comdial, but I'd say you need to contact your local vendor for some programming or some advice. Every time I have run into "auto relocation" on a system--it is either off---OR---the system is a programming & documentation nightmare---because employees have attempted to move phones to new locations without understanding the down-side consequences. Do you have a manual for this system and have you programmed this system before?? Wait for one of the Comdial moderators to answer----they may have some other routes for you to go. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, the tech in charge of our system has been reassigned to a new project and I am left to fend for myself. We utilized the auto relocation feature successfully for the majority of the projects duration, but for some reason it is not working now. I would think that reprogramming the extension from the phone itself would be similar to the Nitsuko system I have administered before. I hope that it is that easy.

The auto station relocation can be a nightmare!!
I would say it is turned off. I usually turn it off due to the problems that can come from it.
If you have VMMI and the password to the system. Then you can turn it on. (it's in System Parameters) move the phone and then turn it off again.
This is the best way to use that feature. Also move 1 phone at a time!!!!
If you do not have the vmmi program, see if you can get your vendor to remote in and turn it on for you and then have him turn it back off after your done. Beleive me this is the best way!!

Is there a simple programming action that can be performed at the phone itself to renumber the extension?

Unfortunately, there is not anything that can be done from the phone. If you can handle a punch tool the simplest thing would be to swap the cross connect.

I suggest you swap them at the breakouts also, over time of set relocating you can make yourself a real nightmare. Unless you keep a very good record of the sets you relocate.

I was thinking of heading that direction myself. Thankfully, being on a construction site I have access to a fox and hound and a punchdown tool. I appreciate the help.
