I purchased a dxp plus from sundance and am trying to get into it to program it and am having no success. Here is what I have done:
purchased a dxcbl cable which plugs in to serial port on computer (9 pin) to com port on dxcpu card (modular).
My computer is working fine, it has two serial ports and I have tried using both to connect to both serial ports on dxp plus (different combinations of both to get this to work but it won't)
I am using vmmi and hyperterminal with no success. I am using 9600 for data, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control as called for in dxp plus manual. I even tried the other recommended settings in dxp manual to no success. I also have tried lower speed settings to no avail.
Nothing will come in terminal screen.
The dxcpu card has solid green lights so I would think that card is good.
In a dxp plus manual I have it shows a diagram of a dxcpu board with a dxram board mounted on it and then a dxpsw card mounted on it. I have a dxcpu-pls cpu board which only has one board mounted on top of it (total of two boards connected). I am assuming this is normal for a dxcpu board in a dxp plus system
I would greatly appreciate any help as I am dying to be able to get into this system to start fooling around. In fact, I am not even watching red sox game now as I want to get a solution.
If anyone can offer me some advice I would be eternally grateful. thx!

check the switch settings on the cpu card. switch 1 set to on will force the com 1 port to 9600 N,8, 1
using hyper term or procomm plus when you are on line just press return.
the banner screen will come up and then you can login.

Make sure you hood is correct. you should have pins off of your computer 2,3,5 if your using a db9 or 2,3,7 if you using a db25. If you using a flipped line cord aka silver satin cord. Make sure its 4 conductor and not 2. 2 = red 3 = green 5 = black or db25 2 = red 3 = green 7 = black To test this, plug one end into the hood and put your hood on you com port. plug the other end into a test jack (just a reg phone jack with nothing attatched to it). short pins 2 and 3 together. Then with hyperterm or procomm start typing. you should see you keystrokes on the screen if not you not send data to the end of the cable and back. ------------------ ![[Linked Image from home.columbus.rr.com]](https://home.columbus.rr.com/toddmiriam/animations/bulldog.gif)

I tried setting the jumper 1 on cpu card as I saw this in manual to no affect. Incidentally, I tried connecting to a dxp fx2 system using same cable and couldn't connect to it either. I am trying to get another cable to test with. I figured the cable I had would work as it was labeled with part # dxcbl and it seems like it is supposed to be for this purpose. We will see what happens.

Don't go by colors use only pin numbers when configuring the cable. Some db9 to modular connectors are wire with USOC standard and some are wired with WECO standard and the colors for both standards are opposite of each other. There are no markings that tell you if it is WECO or USOC. Thats why the one that came from King was wired wrong. Some of them were wired wrong at Comdial also.

CMDL_GUY is right. I ve even seen adapters that did not match any standard(Tiawan cheap). In a lazyman's way around the tracking of pinouts I ve learnd to just swap the pinouts for one of four possible configs.
2/3/5 r/g/b g/r/b g/r/y r/g/y
Since you know that one of those doesn't work you only have to try the other three. You'll need an Amp D-Sub insertion/extraction tool (available at Graybar or off the web). I ve found that I could solve an adapter problem faster just by swapping and testing thatn sitting down and figureing out just why one way is not working.

I checked pinouts and they were ok. I tried to connect again to the port and it wouldn't work. I then tried second com port (one on bottom of dxcpu board) with settings 9600, 8, 1, n, no flow control and it worked. I thought I had tried this setting before on this port. I am not sure if I tried this port after I set the dip switch on the cpu board to set the com port to its defaults. Anyway, all is good now and I learned a lot. Sorry for creating the confusion. I appreciate all the great advice. I am now in and very happy ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/smile.gif)

On of the problems with testing different configurations is the some of the wrong wiring configurations will lock-up the port on the DXCPU. I know it is a pain but some times a reset after every try will make sure you don't pass by the right configuration. But not at a customers site just in your lab.
