Let's say you hire a contractor to do some work for you. Let's say he is a cabler and you pay them top dollar on an hourly basis ... let's say you pay them 50.00 per hour... Let's say even though you paid this contractor top dollar for a helper, He is not running the job just acting as a helper... Let's say that the guy shows up with a stocking on his head and does not portray the image of a professional .... Let's say that the guy is found sleeping on the job.... Let's say that the CEO of the company that the work was being performed for was present and saw this worker sleeping Let's say that this customer has many locations and gives us, Valentine Systems a ton of work... Let's assume that this customer has some bad feelings about what happened and I am sure we will be fighting over the bill... and I must say I agree with the customer... Let's also assume that the customer may never deal with us again.....
So here is the question .... The contractor expects that I pay him for his low lif off the street gu that was useless.... how do I determine what would be fair....

If I read you right The contractor you hired at $ 50.00 an hour want you to also pay for his unprofessional helper. Is the correct?

The helper was the guy that was hired for 50.00 per hour..... The contractor was the company that supplied me with this guy.... The other guys on the job were my employees .....

oh..ok you hired out from a contractor and they sent out someone who just didn't cut it. Don't pay them (that's not what you bargained for, they didn't satisfy your service needs)according to what you said above and get a new contractor. That's what I would do.

I would have sent his ass home as soon as I saw him sleeping or not working then I would have called the contractor and chewed him out, after all when this lamo was on the job site it was a reflection on your company, I wouldn't pay them either.

Im not a hump that just says screw you.... That is why I posted this... if you guys feel screw him ... then that would make me feel better... although I will pay him something... Please give me your feedback....

Ok so what I did was record the conversation that my lead tech told me.... So now when I called the tech tonight to give hm his work tommorow he tells me he felt like a rat ...
I emailed this to the contractor so he would not feel like I was trying to just beat him out of the money for the work he was contracted to do.... I felt like I wanted him to hear it from the horses mouth......

1. He may have cost you future jobs from this customer 2. He was sleeping on the job 3. The contractor should check out his people before sending them out. 4. For those reasons I wouldn't pay them and they should understand, but if you think they should be paid then by all means pay them but tell them what happened so as not to send him out again to mess somebody else up.
I would also personally go out and talk to the customer and assure him that you had no idea that the guy they sent was like that and maybe even give him a discount from the job. It sounds like you have done many jobs for him and he should know your work by now and not judge you on bad lamo that doesn't even work for you.

I agree with the other guys. You hired this guy through a contractor. Not only did this guy not meet expectations, but may have cost you money. they don't deserve a dime in pay or any more future business. You explain to the contractor that the guy was found sleeping on the job. You don't pay the contractor and the contractor doesn't pay the bum. Even if he did some work, that work was offset by the damage he did on the job. Next time you are looking for help, check with someone on the board. We have 2500+ members and growing. I am sure we can find you someone to help with cabling at a much better rate and do a better job.
