I'm also trying to figure out a way to connect comdial SIP endpoints to the MP1000/5000 without a VPN. Comdial insists that it can't be done but I find this hard to believe. They seem to be hiding the details from the dealers. (Such the fact that the MP1000 is a Linux box that you can telnet into.) They don't want us to know this stuff.

Has anyone had success in your experiments? What ports do the Comdial endpoints use. I think it's 5060 outbound but I haven't figured out what inbound port range is yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not only VPN but a VPN server is what they say. I and a couple of other dealers are trying to figure it out. I have it working great within my intranet, but not internet.

So far, I've set it up using a Cisco VPN concentrator (Comdial-recommended) on one end and some Linksys VPN routers on the other end. This solution works well. We tried using Linksys' new VPN routers on both ends, but had nothing but problems. I think their old VPN routers would have worked okay, but we were so tired of messing with it that we just ended up getting the Concentrator.

I don't remember what we ended up finding it for. Try a search on Google (or froogle.google.com), or eBay. That will probably give you an idea.

One of the things that the Concentrator fixed that the Linksys had a hard time doing (couldn't do without NUMEROUS tunnels, one to each site) was remote site to remote site, via the main office. Everyone had a VPN connection to the main office, but couldn't see each other. This affected users' ability to call each other, since calls from endpoint to endpoint are handed off once established. The Concentrator made this happen pretty much seamlessly.

The Model 3005, version 4.1.5 is what Comdial has tested and identifies in the IMI for programming and setup of the remote EP200/300 endpoints.

To anyone interested I have located a source for CISCO VPN Concentrator 4.1.5 with VPN Client 4.0.1. These are CISCO refurbished sealed units with 120 day warranty for $2000.00.

If ya want address and name shoot me an e-mail.

What do you do when you find out after the fact that you need one of these? Do you get the customer to cough it up or just eat the cost?
