Is anyone doing anything with voice over IP? What experience do you have with some of the various manufacturers?

Thanks

I've done very little with Inter-tel, they weren't voice over IP phones, but we were routing calls over their 3200 routers across customer data network. Quality was very good, fast, no problems. I've heard their voice over IP phones are just as good and reliable, considering your network is good as well.

WE ARE REPAIRING AVAYA IP TELEPHONES AT OUR SITE AND HAVE AN IP NETWORK OFF OF A DEFINITY SWITCH. IT WORKS WELL BUT THE INITIAL SETUP TIME OF THE TELEPHONES ON THE NETWORK TAKES AWILE. THE DOWNLOAD TIMES ARE LONG.

I have used VOIP in a couple of different ways and what it really comes down to QOS (quality of service). Voice IP packets have to be given precidence over data IP packets, so the conversation does not break up. Only a point to point data connection can do this. True VOIP from IP address to IP address works, but not well enough for a business to depend on. I just installed 3 NEC 2000 IPS's using peer to peer CCIS, with centralized VM & call accounting. Of couse I used point to point T-1's, because if you just throw your voice traffic into the cloud, you lose QOS. Since they were already sharing data, this systems payback savings is just a few years.
