I have an Impact phone system (DSU?) G1632 with software module 17A. We have 5 lines currently and have been using the system for about 18 months without incident. Of the 5 lines, the first two and last two are designed to delayed ring to our voice mail (small office light) after 4 rings (we do not use day/night service at all).

When someone calls one of the last two phone lines, the call bounces right into vmail after 4 rings, as programmed. However, the first two lines are a different issue. The phone will ring 4 times, there will be a pause, and then after a moment, the caller will get the message "you have reached an invalid number" and then the line shuts down with a busy signal.

When I run the debut software and watch the call as it comes in, after 4 rings I see the message on the debut screen "In box 800, play greeting (initial greeting )" and then the message disappears and I hear the invalid entry message on the phone.

When I call one of the lines that actually works and bounces into voice mail properly, the only difference is that I see the word "(pause)" appear on the debut screen.

Thinking it might be the debut, I unplugged it and assumed that all incoming calls would now just ring and ring until I could figure it out. No such luck... same invalid number message when the debut is powered down so I assume it is a comdial programming issue.

I am not a tech (as you can tell from my description above)... The orignial installer is no longer here and his replacement has been here twice and could not figure anything out. He was to come back and call Comdial help a few days ago but has yet to return and I can not afford for people to keep calling after hours and think they have the wrong number. So, I started with a google search last night and found this site.

I do have the Impact system installation and software book and have been using it to do our own basic programming. I am assuming we did something to the system ourselves and do not realize what we did. The only way I know to program the phone lines for voice mail is to use the topic in the book for "assign ringing for automatic attendent operation."

Is there something am missing or some type of call forward issue we could have inadvertantly programmed to create this? if it is something I can find in the manual, please point me to the appropriate page.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide and for this site! I already used it to fix the problem with our debut telling me I have made an "invalid entry" when I press the button we programmed to get us into voice mail.

If you unplugged the Debut then you have pretty much eliminated an on site piece of equipment playing the "invalid number" recording unless you have DVAs for departmental calling installed. I would power down the DSU and the Debut and try to dial the numbers. It sounds like a carrier problem to me. No equipment powered up would prove that. If it rings and rings then you may have on site issues and they can be further troubleshot.

BINGO! Something I never would have thought of. Local phone co. had it programmed to forward to a vmail box on their end that did not exist.

Thanks for the insight.
