Has anyone experienced compatibility issues with answering machines on DX80 analog ports? I have a customer that wants to be able to transfer calls to an answering machine so their patients (it's a doctor's office) can leave prescription info on the answering machine. Problem is I cannot get the machine to answer. They already have one answering machine in place to handle calls when the office is closed and it works fine on an analog port. I swapped answering machines and the existing machine worked fine at either location. The new did not work at either location. Sounds like a bad answer machine. Customer got a replacement machine, same model (AT&T 1738), but it will not answer either. Any ideas? Unfortunately they do not have voicemail.

I can transfer outside calls to a single line analog port and it rings, therefore, you should be able to transfer to an answering machine.
Verify the analog extension number and that it will ring a single line phone and also verify that they are performing the transfer correctly.

yes, I have ran into this issue on the DX-80. I was able to fix this issue by adding a Viking RG-10A Ring Booster. It works with no issues now.
I do not rememeber the cost factor, but I know we spent enough time going out there working on it to justify just putting it in.

Analog Ports on the DX-80 use a double ring cadence, some answering machines will accept this and some will not, it's usually listed in the ans. mach. specs. Usually the cheapest solution is get a different answering machine.

Estwyn, I like the comment about the doulbe ring. I got out my Installation & Maintenace Manual to see what I could find in the Specs. For the DX80 the CO line port as a Ringing Sensitivity "40v RMS 25Hz" and a Ringer Equivalence Number of 1.5. I have never seen an answering machine that had "Ringing Sensitivity" listed in the specs. The specs did not say what the ringing voltage was on the analog ports. Maybe one of you with a work bench can measure the voltage.

I finally found the real solution to this problem. System application - general settings- ring scheme, change to 9

Hey Mark K.,
Thanks for posting the Ring Scheme solution. We have a residential customer with a DX-80 and analog port set up for their answering machine. While they are not yet using the analog port, this issue might have come up for us in the future.

I usually go with ring scheme 4, CO 2 sec on, 4 sec off Ext 1 sec on, 2 sec off
I added a loud ringer to one of the analog ports and the ringer has a long "ramp up time" and a short ringing interval didn't produce a very long ring at the end point.

I, too, prefer Ring Scheme 4.
Mark, the internal ring on Scheme 9 matches pretty closely to the default, Ring Scheme 3, which I thought was one that had trouble. Did Scheme 9 work on internal calls to the analog device? Scheme 4 seems like a more standard ring cycle.
