I ran into a DX-80 phone system and we are trying to figure out how to program the system. the phones are Impact phones i think and there is no feature key to access the program mode. Once into programming do you have to put all the phones that you want to ring in a UCD group?

I don't think that Impact phones will work on the DX-80. That's a completely different family. Do the phones even come up at all? If so, I will be surprised.
No, UCD has nothing to do with ringing programming.

Ed is right about the Impact phones---those go with the DSU systems---the DX-80 has only one phone and that is the 7260 with 30 programmable buttons.
Actually, the UCD program on the DX-80 is used all the time for ringing options. The answering position program allows only six phones to ring---but using the UCD programming you can have 6 UCDs ringing and each UCD can have 24 members.
I would suggest you get the manuals & all documentation from whoever sold the system or check out the MANUALS link on this website. And you may want to enlist some phone support from one of the Comdial Moderators here if you want to save some time.

you are correct the phone system is not a DX 80 I believe it might be a DSU not a DSU II though there is'nt any markings on the KSU that say what it is. would these phones work with the DSU and can you describe the DSU cabinet so I know that is what I have.

There should be a sticker on the side of the cabinet that says "G0408", "G1232", possible "J0408", something like that, a letter followed by 4 numbers. The DSU is a black metal cabinet with a software cartridge (about the size of a cigarette pack) stuck in a slot in the top. The DSU II is a gray cabinet.
