I have a ComDial phone system with a KeyVoice vmail connected to it. I have 10 lines, configured to roll-over when a line is busy.

On Friday morning, without ANY changes to the system, I started getting "calls" on Line 1. When the line is answered, it is simply a dial tone. This happens about every 20-30 seconds. Another symptom is that the ring is non-stop (ie. NO pauses between rings). The only way I can stop it, is to busy out Line 1 (via lifting the handset on Line 1 & just leaving it off-hook).

I had Verizon trace the line and there doesn't appear to be any problem with it. I had them busy out the line on their end but the "calls" still came through (indicating it's probably originating from our system).

I'm at a loss. I'm not that experienced with phone systems, but I have connected to our system via my laptop and performed some configuration so I am a little familiar with that. Other than that, I'm not sure how I can trace this to find out where this originating from.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Chris

You have a bad line port. Have your telephone tech move the line to a different port and reprogram to map the new port to button where line one should be.
I should add that sometimes power cycling the system (off for a few minutes then on again) sometimes solves this. But not often.

Mark,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't have a tech... the tech is me - even though I know nothing about phone systems.
I'll read through the manual & see if I can figure out what needs to be done. I had already tried power cycling 2 or 3 times with no luck.

Chris,
As Mark said, you need to call in a tech to remap the port. I bet there are some techs on this board that are reasonably close to you, or know someone that is. Give it a few hours and see who chimes in.

Your 2.5 hrs. from me, that's a bit far. Matt Grey at Capitol Communications is near you. Check the installers link at the top of the page.

Thanks for the info guys.

I read the manual last night & it seems pretty straight forward. Can you confirm that I'm understanding it correctly:
The DSU II has 16 ports. Line 1 goes into port 1. We're assuming port 1 is bad which is why I have the problem. What I need to do is to move line 1 to the 1st open port, in this case port 12. Then I need to reprogram port 12 so that it is the same as port 1.

With that change, the system should function as it did before, correct?

Again, thanks for the info & help.

Close, you also need to button map port 12 to the button that line one should appear on for each phone.

Mark,
THANKS! I was about to make the changes and I just starting to think about that, so I figured I'd check to see if there were any replies to my post. That's easy enough to do. I'll post-back with hopefully a final thanks.
