We are looking into DID faxing.

A little about me, I am an end user, it is my job to keep up our phone system, the programming, operation, wiring, etc. I have Installer level access to all applications on our Comdial FXII system. Was given brief training by the company that installed the system, everything else has been learned through trial-and-error. The only thing we call the installing company in for now is adding cards to the system or if something fails that we can't figure out. We've had this system in place about 5 years now and love it.

Back to my problem/question:

We have a block of DID channels on our T1, we want to route a couple of the #'s to a fax modem and then have them routed based on the DID #.

Our fax server says it is capable of handling DID faxing via DTMF, my modems can accept DTMF for DID. (Multi-Tech MX2834Zxb modems)

I set the DID Translation Table up to go to the modem, and I can send faxes via the DID #. But they are not getting routed properly.

Enabled debug on the fax server, and I never see where the telephone system is forwarding or sending DID info/DTMF signaling to the modem?

Do I not have a flag/setting set properly somewhere?

I do have the DID block settings set for DTMF.

Your fax server ports are going to have to be put in a voice mail hunt group to correctly route the calls based on DTMF and DNIS routing.

this is one for the comdial tech. It is hard enough to do when you know what you are doing. Trying to walk you thru this would take forever. Time to call the tech in. Just my 2 cents

I never would have thought of that one, Dave. Good idea. So then, basically you would be sending inband digits to the fax server?

Can you have two different groups in the Voicemail table? I guess as long as they don't hunt to each other, you'd probably be okay, huh? Putting them in there allows for the digits to be passed, and for the 1 "splash tone", instead of dial tone? Would that present a problem for the fax server, if it was set to "wait for dial tone" on calling out?

We are using DID faxing and what worked for us is putting the DID number in the Voice Mail ID in the Translation Table. Hope this helps.

The best one to intergrate with the comdial is made by a company Faxback. They will walk you thru the setup on the Comdial. Somethings need to be changed in the trans.txt also.

Why not just use the Multitech Faxfinder instead of using a modem. All you need is the phone system to pass the DTMF digits and you can route the faxes to individual e-mail addresses. It would be a much cleaner application.
