Greetings Everyone,
Is there anyone out there that has info on how to program a Comdial Cardinal Hotel/Motel system? To be more specific - dial 8 and 9 line grouping? Getting a busy or reorder tone when dial 8 or 9. Thanks in advance !

The name of the line needs to start with 8 or 9 to be included in the groups.

I still have a manual on my truck if you need anything.

Cardinal? How old is that. I don't recall ever hearing that name before.

Jutin:

It was actually a pretty nice little hotel/motel system. It was made by another company for them, but I can't remember who made it. I think it came along when the original Executech systems were discontinued. My guess would be early 1990's.

Made by Candella, then ESI, private labeled for Radio Shack (!), then Comdial bought it to experiment with before their first Executech 2264HM. Such "good" memories. Always wanted to buy the rights, update the software, and call it the "Patelephone" system!

Hi,

I was the project leader for the Cardinal Microswitch. I worked at Candela, where this was a "skunk-works" project intended to provide an additional market to the ones we were already in.

Using an 8088, programmed in PLM86, it was a digitally controlled analog PBX.

I still have the lab "house mouse" prototype at my house (guests are always puzzled that they have to dial 9 to get an outside line).

I also have two of the Tandy version boxes, never been used, and one Tandy attendant console.

We built them well, but it was not a great success. AT&T intriduced their new electronic key system at the same time we started trying to sell, and it killed us. Interesting to see it is still around after all these years.
