I was doing a search for the Voyager. I got an email from someone yesterday, asking some questions about it. I didn't think I had even heard of the Voyager, so I did a search. After reading this, I remembered it being in the price book for quite a while, back around the same time the Unisyn was in there. Weird. Yet I've still never seen one or even read anything about one.

How many of these got installed back in their day? At first I thought this was the ESI OEM, but then after reading the thread about the Cardinal, I realized I was probably wrong.

So if that's the case, then at what point, and with what OEM, did ESI get the code for DSU digital integration? I don't think I've ever heard where that relationship came about.

I got the same email, and I never touched a Voyager either. I think ESI made the first small box voice mail for Comdial, I put in one or three, it was called Eloquence. Eloquent, is wasn't. It was designed by ESI to interface with the DSU through analog terminal interface units - 2 ports each. That's probably where they got the integration from. The box looked like what later became known as the ESI Voiceworks. But the later version worked way better.

Never touched the Voyager. Sold a few Eloquits. Put many Voiceworks on DSUs. Nothing worked better than Key Voice. Sold two PATIs..both blew up on install. Have taken the last of my install Execumails out of service. Some of this stuff just keeps going. I got a call today from a guy trying to interface an Engenious cordles to a NO308.

American Phone Centers, a former (or still around??) authorized Comdial repair center / dealer sent be a brochure for the Voyager way back when. It seemed to be a '308' analog key system with message waiting circuits. I remember the record times being somewhat limited (flash memory was pretty limited in those days), but it had a fairly attractive price. Never seen / installed one, and since none of the real pro's on the board here have installed one either, I guess it flopped. If I find the system brochure, I'll make it into a PDF and post it as a URL for all to read. Thanks for the link Justin!

I actually had my hands on one for a few days. My old shop bought one to test bed but it was so flaky and buggy that we boxed it up and sent it back to the distributor while we could still strong arm them into taking it back.

When you read that link on the history of Comdial it makes you wonder what happen to it all?

Ain't that the truth. The telecom mergers aren't new I guess, just more frequent.

I'm the one who sent the Voyager emails. The board was made by Voysys. It's an analog 4x8 with some features usually found on larger switches. Apparently there is (or was) software, as there's an RS232 port. When I changed the internal memory battery, I lost all voice prompts for such mundane things as programming, voice mail, etc. Alas - my quest continues. I'll let you know if I find any software. I did get a printed installation manual from [email protected].

I forgot to point out that the Voyager isn't a KSU, it's an analog PBX.
