Have customer with Vodavi STS, 4x8x2, two pots lines, caller ID enabled and verified thru telco, line 2 is shared with the fax thru a line sharing device that is probably 15+ years old, caller ID info is not passed on by the line sharing device. I know there are line sharing devices available now that will pass on the caller ID on incoming calls that are not a fax. Looking for suggestions / recommendations. BYTW caller ID is enabled on the switch and works fine on line 1. Thanks, dosjock

i would go with a stick or blackbox. i am sure a flood of other recommendations will come in as well. i have had the best success with these two.

your problem will be two fold. First, you must have a line share device which is caller ID enabled. Second, you will need to set the programming on the line share device to pick up after the second ring. This will allow enough time for the caller ID info to pass through. Each line share device will have specific instructions on passing caller ID, but the customer will need to let the line ring twice, or turn on delayed ringing.

All ILECs sell a service that allows multiple numbers on a line with different ringing patterns for each number, in Bellsouth it is called RingMaster.
The new faxes have devices built in to automatically recognize a different ringing pattern and ignore other patterns.
Since some money is spent anyway, recommend the new service for 2 numbers to reside on the same line, buy a new fax from office depot and be a customer hero.

I agree with EK!!
You need to have distingtive ringing services activated on that line and let TELCO do the work for you.
If all else fails, use a BFH.
