Hi, I do not have a lot of experience with phone systems, but I've managed to install and setup a system at home I've read and learned a lot from the posts here. Thanks. I hope that by posting today I can receive some helpful advice with a problem that I'm having.

I have an older DSU (G0408) system with 4 Impact 8012S-GT phones which work fine for me (in my home).

I would like to add 4 more phones which have been given to me, but they are much newer Impact phones: 8312S-PT and do not appear to be compatible with the system.

I ran self diagnostics on the phones and the displays say:
Old phones: IC039-101.07A
New phones: IC039-259 rev 2

When I plug the new phones into the system the screen on the phone briefly flashes this message once:
"No Communication
IC039-259 rev 2"
and then the screen goes blank.

I have reset the system to factory defaults, and unplugged/plugged it back it to power for it to restart itself.

What are my options?
Is it possible to upgrade the software on the system to support the newer phones?

Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks a lot for your comments.

I don't believe the 8312s phones will work on the DSU I. Is the KSU black? If it is, then I think that you've got to get a DSU II which is grey in color.
From a money stand-point, I think it's a wash--either 1. Purchase a DSU II (408) or 2. Purchase 4 more 8012S phones.

The regular Comdial mods will jump in here soon. They'll know for SURE. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'm attaching an image of the DSU's side (it's black) where the label is located.

If there is no way for the new phones to work with the old system and I bought a DSU-II, would the old phones still work?

Thanks again for the help. [Linked Image from xmission.com]

I would go with the DSUII, there are a lot of improvements. Both type phones should work on the DSUII unless it has one of the software rev.'s (not the norm)that limited phone types based on dealer level.

When previous poster: CMDL_GUY says, "unless it has one of the software rev.'s (not the norm) that limited phone types based on dealer level" he means the software on the DSU-II, not the phones themselves, correct? ...my new phones say: "IC039-259 rev 2" should I worry about the "rev 2" part?

If not, I'll probably start looking for a DSU-II system.

No he's not talking about the phones, some early DSUII's were sold to lower level dealers and they were not compatible with the Impact line of phones. Impact support was a perk for higher selling dealers. You don't need to worry about the phone rev.

A DSU with 20A software will support SCS phones. Of course finding 408 20a or b software would probably be harder than finding a DSU-II!!

I just wanted to thank the group. I found a used DSU-II in nice condition for less than $200 and my problem has been resolved: both types of my phones work now and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again for all of your comments.
