I have a customer with an FXII with 17a software and a small office voice mail. Here's the problem

Customer pushes the vmail soft key to login to their mail box and few time a day instead of going to the enter password prompt it does something strange like transfering to another extension or playing the main greeting ect. other than those few times the system works great. I should also mention this system has been installed for about 6 years and has worked great until about a month ago

I have swaped the 2 voice boards in the voice mail, did a first time setup on the voice mail, Moved the voice mail ports to different ports on the FXII, and finally when all else failed did a master clear of th FX and reprogrammed.

Comdial Tech support is of no help on this (big suprise) and i am at a loss. Has anyone had any similar problems or any ideas?

17a was first release. Upgrade to 17F. It's a no cost upgrade and you'll have a more stable platform.

It sounds like you have something grounding. The serial link is very susceptable to grounds. If it's an occasional thing I would be looking there. You can also change your serial port. Also, the upgrade couldn't hurt.

I was going to do an upgrade but they are using IMIST modules on several of the phones and if I am remembering correctly the FXII quit supporting that at 17B (am i right on this). Also it's worked with 17a for years so i wouldnt think it would be a software rev issue.

As for grounding other than the main ground to the cabinet what should i check

As for changing serial ports i will move the serial integration to com 1 on the FX but I cant move it on the Vmail because the other port is bad

I'm pretty sure the drop in support was phone rev related not software related. I just opened a 17F database and it allowed IMIST but stated REV D and later sets do not support it. With the other comm port bad it is evident that the serial ports have issues before and I'd highly suspect ground issues/power/lightning.

I have a customer with the same exact problem

Changed the COM ports on the PC... still having issues.

Verified the COM ports on the FX are good... still having issues.

Also, upper left corner now blinks Single-Line Demo

any help would be appreciated

One thing that causes the demo mode is the dongle not being plugged in.

I forget which was which, but there are two things that can occur similar to single-line demo. One is caused by no key. The other is caused by no voice board.

As for the problem with the soft key, did you verify that the voicemail ports are connected in the correct order? Are you using serial at 9600 or 19200. If 19200, slow it down to 9600. Ports not in correct order will mess up serial integration for sure. Serial works better (more reliably) at 9600 than 19200.

If the FXII and voicemail are in the same room, make sure they are on the same power outlet, same ground, and make sure your FXII cabinet ground isn't different reference than the AC ground.

I also agree that it would definitely be worthwhile to upgrade to 17F. Lots of bug fixes and some enhancements added between 17A and 17F.
