Used hyperterminal as directed and sent file to system, waited 1 1/2 hors and next thing I know it restarts sending and wait another 1 1/2 hours to no avail. Called Tech Support after first fail and asked if aborting would harm system and if F17 would still work and responce was I Dunno! Will be on site in a.m. to replace CPM.

I want to know more about this. I have one that I was going to be upgrading from J18 to L18. I won't even attempt it if this is the norm.
So you did your receive into F17 before opening database in L18?

Connected with F17, received all, disconnected turned off cabinets, moved jumper to download position. Connected via hyper terminal, hit enter, hit l, send text file, selected proper file and waited and waited. Nothing worked as stated, moved jumper back to normal, cold started and fired system up and no displays on phones and unable to connect to system. All said and done it was 9 p.m. and I had been playing with it for 5 hours, customer had to go home and I had a 1 1/2 hour drive home. Boss will meet me at 6:30 a.m. with new cabinet and hopefully customer will be back up and running by 8 a.m. with F17.

I've already done three L18 upgrades and no problems.
Things to check:
1) Back up your database using the matching PCDBA, most likely K17 or F17. I inadvertently downloading an L18 database using PCDBA K17 and the data didn't' match what I knew was programmed into the switch. BTW, when I install a PCDBA, I don't use the default directory, rather I use separate directories so that I have all the versions I need to use.
2) Using Hyperterminal, send the file as a TEXT FILE. It takes umm...not sure, but less than it takes to smoke a cig outside, nothing near an hour and half.
3) Do you see ######### as the file is being uploaded?
4) Did you burn the uploaded data into memory?
5) Move the Download jumper back to Normal.
6) Cold boot the system for at least a full minute (a ten second cold start won't clear everything - directory swapping comes to mind).
7) Use PCDBA L18 software to access the system.
I aborted an upload once when I accidentally used SEND instead of SEND TEXT FILE.
All of the quirks I've seen have been related to a lightning damaged DX-120. None of the "quirks" could be duplicated on two other systems.

Stupid question, but was the Cold Start strap moved back to Normal? I believe the symptom you mentioned would show up if the strap was in the Cold Start position.
nevtxjustin, I've tried keeping multiple versions of the DX120 PCDBA on my laptop. While I can have F17 and J18, or K17 and J18 on the same laptop, loading K17 finds and wipes F17, and F17 finds and wipes K17. Odd, and I wish I could get all of them on there. There are some definite backwards-compatability problems with post F17. I've had numerous problems where a receive all or send all, when trying to go backwards to an older release would hang, typically at the part where a new feature was introduced or missing.

I haven't had any problems loading L18. It generally takes less than 5 minutes to load the firmware. I did have a problem with slow and failing uploads but I am using a different Hyperterminal program and that fixed the problem.

Problem discovered, I use a PCMIA serial adapter and that was not working. It would take 45 secs to get each # symbol, tried a recommended usb to serial adapter and it would load faster then fail. Used hyper terminal on different PC with serial post and finished everything in 20 minutes. Thanks to all for your help.

Comdial has certified one USB to serial adapter, but I haven't gotten it yet for my non-serial port laptops as I have a laptop with a serial com port
I have used the Belkin USB to serial port adapter to program the DX80/120 units, but it does not support the 7212C flash voice mail card.
I've also used the Radio Shack adapter and Belkin on the DSU/DSU II units successfully.
